Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions - We have all the answers you need and can answer any questions not shown here. If you have a query not shown here, please get in touch.

Do you charge for a loft survey?

No – our surveys are completely free. Within 24 hours, you’ll receive a clear, itemised written quotation. There’s no pressure, no hard sell, and no obligation – just honest advice on your loft storage options.

Can you give me a price over the phone?

We can give you a ballpark figure, but for an accurate price we need to inspect your loft. This ensures we recommend the right loft boarding, loft ladder, loft hatch or insulation solution for your home.

What are your costs?

LaddersaLoft offers a fast, efficient Loft Ladder installation service covering households across all of Devon, including Exeter and Plymouth.

Are your prices inclusive of VAT?

Yes – all quotes include VAT. There are no hidden charges – the price you see is the price you pay.

What if you discover a problem once the job has started?

No worries – the price we quote is the final price. There are no surprise extras.

How long does installation take?

Every loft is unique, so the installation time can vary—from just a day to a few days. If you share your loft details with us, we’ll give you a clear idea of how long it’s likely to take.

Can I board the loft in my new build home?

Absolutely! Professionally installed loft boarding for new build homes is a safe and practical way to create storage space. With the right system, it won’t damage insulation or affect your property’s structure.

My loft has deep insulation – can you still board it?

Yes! We install raised loft boarding systems (also known as floating floors). These allow you to keep your insulation effective while gaining safe and accessible storage space.

I don’t have any insulation in my loft – can you install it?

Of course. We supply and fit Knauf Earthwool insulation to the recommended 270mm depth, improving energy efficiency and helping you save on heating bills.

How much weight can a new build loft take?

Modern homes built to British Standards are designed to hold:

  • 25kg per m² of permanent load
  • 180kg per m² of temporary load

Our loft flooring systems are designed with this in mind, giving you safe, long-lasting storage.

Can I speak to one of your existing customers?

Absolutely! We’re proud of the feedback we receive. You can read plenty of kind words on our Google Reviews. And if you’d like extra peace of mind, just give us a call - we’ll happily put you in touch with one of our customers so you can hear about their experience first-hand.

My house isn’t a new build – can I still have loft boarding?

Absolutely! Many older homes come with their own quirks—like uneven joists, roof supports, water tanks, wiring, pipework, or even smaller loft hatches. But don’t worry, our loft boarding solutions are designed to work around these challenges with ease. We’ll help you make the most of your loft and turn it into a safe, practical storage space.

Will loft boarding affect my warranty

This is one of the most common concerns – and the answer is no, it won’t affect your warranty if installed correctly.

Some builders may say otherwise, but here’s why that’s not true:

  • Insulation won’t be squashed – we use raised systems.
  • Roof trusses are strong enough to take the load.
  • Damp won’t occur when done properly.
  • Warranties are safe with correctly fitted raised flooring systems.

Do you subcontract the work?

No – all loft boarding installations are carried out personally by David the business owner. You’ll always know who is working in your home.

Common Loft Boarding Myths – Busted!

Loft boarding will void my warranty

Regulations recommend boarding lofts that contain serviceable equipment. A properly installed loft floor won’t affect your warranty.

Loft boarding will cause damp

False! Damp usually occurs when insulation is compressed or airflow is blocked. Our raised flooring system keeps the loft floor above the insulation and ensures proper airflow, keeping your loft dry and healthy.

My loft floor isn’t strong enough

No need to worry! Modern homes built with loft hatches to British Standards are designed to handle up to 25kg per square metre permanently and 180kg per square metre temporarily. Your loft floor can safely take our boarding system.

Loft boarding will squash my insulation

Not true! Our raised flooring system lifts the loft floor above the insulation so it continues to work effectively, keeping your home energy-efficient.

At Laddersaloft, we specialise in creating safe, practical loft storage solutions for homes of all ages, ensuring your loft is both functional and worry-free.
